02Please welcome my partner in science and in life, Dr. Will Castro. The path to building superintelligence requires us to unlock the most fundamental secrets of the universe. Imagine an a sheme with a full range of human emotion. Its analytical power will be greater, and the collective intelligence of every person in the history of the world. Some scientists refer to this as the singularity professor. I call it transcendence. So I feel like you probably know more than everyone with this through the wormhole and researching this role. So is the future as dire as this movie makes it out to be if this happens?
48The future is dire. It is dire. Thanks. Maybe not as much as this movie shows immediately. But do you know how many people are on the planet today? 6, 7 billion maybe? 7.3 billion people. Thinking exponential growth, which is really what it is, in about 15 years, that's like half a generation maybe? 8, 8 billion people. Using up all resources on the planet, all of them.
37Fish in the ocean, dry, poisoning the ocean, getting rid of everything that's in our way in terms of us growing food, cutting down the forest to farm, displacing all of the animals that are, I mean, California, no southern California, people are living up in the mountains where the mountain lions always lived. And you're very upset because the mountain lions are now eating poodles and all those dogs that they have up there. The mountain lions are not a bad guys. Are they? You didn't answer me, Matt. I think the mountain lions are good guys. The mountain lions are good guys. They're being displaced. That continues. That's not just now, that's continues. That goes on into the future.
28And so there are a finite number of animals in the world. There are a finite amount of resources for this growing population that we can't seem to control. We're growing food to feed it. This growing population. Scientists did an experiment once with mice. This is what they discovered. You put five mice on the cage and you feed them enough food for five mice. And we'll always be five mice. You put enough food in F10 mice. Guess what? You get 10 mice. So we are trying to feed this growing population. We are prey victims of the tyranny of agriculture, not my term.
25It's Daniel Quinn's term. But we're going to continue in this manner. Human life is the most precious life on the planet. It's a stupid concept. I got to let you go. I want to keep talking to this but I got to let you go. I got to do some code five questions. Five quick questions. One word answers. Okay. Script or improv? Scrip. Stager screen. Screen. Lendner McCartney. Lenna. Hitchcock or Kubrick. Hitchcock. In one word. Transcendence. Nice. Thank you very much. A pleasure.
