Part 1

0:07Hey, it's Matt with MSN.C, you know, he's beside me. Cody Simpson, man. How you doing? I'm great. How are you? I'm great. So how are you enjoying this experience of the Much Music Awards? It's been great. Last year was, I was here last year and when I arrived this year, it was really loud and a lot of fans on the carpet and were really excited. It was cool to see so many people out there supporting me and just presented LMFAO's award. So it's been a good night so far. I'm releasing my album in October. October 2nd. I just released the preview of it on iTunes and it's doing pretty well and got the full thing coming at the end of the year. So you know, after that we'll just be doing a lot of traveling, a lot of international stuff and yeah. What are we going to see you play here? Do you have a tour mapped out?

0:53Yep, yep. I'm going on to myself and our big time rush. We're going on to 50 days and I think we're coming to Canada in September. Nice. So right around the album release? Right around, yeah, just before it. So there's some of the last shows up here. Is the album in the can? Is it done ready to go? Are you still working on it? I've got one more track to do and then we're like right on the edge. And how do you song right with people? Is it all you? A bit of both. I do a lot of stuff on my guitar and I work with a lot of different songwriters and all that. I like working with people because you learn from them and you learn new tricks and stuff. Cool, we do something called Five Questions, Five Quick Questions, one more answers. Cool. CD right. Leninger McCartney. Oh, Lening.

1:40When you hear a song what usually hits you first, lyrics, melody or rhythm? Melody. Song you've written you're most proud of? Gentlemen. And in one word, Cody Simpson. Grom. Grom. Is that an Australian word? Yeah. Another word, what does it mean? It's like a young serf and it's a beach thing. Yeah. Yeah. We're also asking everyone what you think the song of the summer is going to be. So what do you think the song of the summer is going to be? Well, I don't know. I reckon Kylie Ray Single will keep doing amazing throughout the next hundred years. Yeah. Oh, there she is right now.

2:26Yeah. So yeah, yeah, we'll see. Yeah. Awesome, man. Thank you very much. Appreciate it. Thank you. Yeah.

Part 2

0:05So like we touched on the carpet a little bit here, it has been a crazier. When we had you last year back here in not this room, it was a little nicer for room, but this will do. Things were just starting to heat up. Talk to me about the last year. What has happened? It's been insane. Very busy. Working very hard. It's been a lot of fun at the same time. I like to keep everything nice, lighthearted, good vibes all around. So I've been making some great music and being able to travel and see the world and make people's days by performing. How long has this dream been a dream? Forever? Yeah, I guess. It's always been a hobby of mine. Making music. I've been writing songs since I was six. But I was also a competitive swimmer and a surf or stuff too. I mean it was just on the side. It was nothing more than just a hobby.

0:52I'd never taken a singing lesson or whatever. It was very casual for me. Until people, like I posted a song online that I did, I want to see what people think. I had no experience whatsoever but people started paying attention. That's when I sort of hit me that maybe this was a possibility and it was. It just turned into something much more. I'm totally embraced. It's amazing. What was your stroke? I used to be a swimmer as well. I was a breaststroker. I was a butterfly. That's a hard one. What were you thinking? I mean, I just... It's difficult. Yeah, it's a very suited me. I liked it. Have you been able to sit and talk about traveling the world more than ever now? Have you been able to surf around the world? Well, I live in Cali. I live in LA. So down south from there, a little bit of some pretty nice breaks. But I honestly haven't had the chance to...

1:40We've only been like Europe and Japan and stuff. Exactly, serving countries. Yeah. I make the most of it when I go home in Australia because that's the best place for it. I think when we talked last the record was about, I think it wasn't the fall, it came out? Yeah, October and the new ones coming in a month. So that's what I was going to ask you. Okay. So there was a new record coming. Yes. And how is your songwriting progressed? The first record. I'm not sure. The first one I was just all over the place, to be honest. I didn't know exactly where I wanted to head. The first one was a mixture of the stuff that I'd done in the past. My EP's and singles and whatnot. And then a mixture of... Also had a little bit of foreshadowing of what was coming in the future. And this new album is all about by there pretty much.

2:27Yeah. Focused on what are you writing about this one? It's all about women. Isn't it always all about women? Yeah. But the vibe is very relaxed, very beachy. A couple of reggae jams. I did a song with Ziggy Molly on there. Oh, that's nice. Yeah, which was pretty sick. And then just some really feel good, like summery, like beachy record. It was just like a classic summer album, you know. But it's definitely... It's very cohesive. That's much more of a sound and really discovered what I want to sound like. That's why you recommend Jack Johnson Upstairs. Cool. Thank you so much, man. I really appreciate it. My pleasure.
