0:08Hey, it's Matt Shicker with MSN.CA, Simple Planner, inside at the Air Canada Center. We're gonna go in chat with them about their new record, get your heart on, tour in Canada in the winter, because it's a little crazy they should know being Canadian, that you should do that in the summer, and a whole bunch more. Simple Plan, Air Canada Center. Here with us in Simple Plan, Kale, Jeff, Davide, Nasi Bocou. Yes, see? How you doing? I'm doing well. How are you guys? Back in Canada after like what? Months? Why are you doing your Canadian tour in the middle of the winter? Why are you not in like California right now coming here in the summer? That is a question that I do not have the answer, but I can tell you that most of our Canadian tours have been done in the winter.

0:54I have no idea why. We're about to fire on manager for that exact same reason. The record has got a lot of piano stuff, even a song like, a song Save My Life, which I'd like to talk about because that's interesting how you guys came up with that with the Twitter stuff. The song was actually pretty special because that song was written with our fans on Twitter. We asked them, what does music mean to you? What does our music mean to you? We got like tons of replies and basically tried to include the best of them into the song and we actually invited some of our fans to sing on the track. It's a song written with the fans, for the fans and sung by the fans. So it's like, yeah, it's kind of a gift of ours to our biggest fans.

1:40Rivers Cuomo's on the record. Icebox for Roll Ups. He sounds like lyrics he's writing a lot lately in his big pop songs. So how did that come about? I'm going to tell you a funny story. And we wrote that song with him. I remember preparing for the session because we're so nervous. I mean, Rivers Cuomo for us is like an icon, someone that we really look up to. And obviously, he's been fans of his music for the longest time. And if you listen to our stuff in the past, we don't really have those sort of funny... Quarky lyrics. Yeah, Quarky lyrics. We don't really have those in many of our songs. But before he showed up, I remember spending hours just like, what would he like? We just started putting down these lyrics that were so weezer-like and that were so his style. We had all these things prepared. We even wrote a part of the song before he showed up and kind of had the idea of kicking

2:26my hands off you. And we're like, he gets there and he wants to do all these different things. He's got these beats, these big hip-hop beats. And we're like, now how about more like, you know, like, bint, dint, dint, dint, dint, and he's like, okay, we're like, yeah, it sounds like weezer. Let's do that. He's like, okay. And then we put some lyrics together. And the funny part is a lot of those lyrics that you're like, okay, that's for sure is him, came from us because we're just trying to kind of please him. Like, I'm sure you'd like, you know, all I got left the fruit roll up since like, I would never said that if he wasn't there. So tonight I'm calling all astronaut's all the lonely people that the world forgot. If I have good questions, one more answers. Road or studio? Oof. I can't answer that one. That one. Jesus. I can't. I would say when you're in the studio, the road.

3:12The studio. It's one of those things where you know, you miss it when you don't have it. Right. Absolutely right. When I'm in the studio, I'm ready for tour. When I'm on, you know, when I'm on tour, I'm ready to go back home and make a record. Who knows? Maybe someday we'll have a studio on the road. Oh! Boom. Well, I'm going to go to McCartney. I'm actually a McCartney guy. I'll lay it off. Yeah, me too. I like the attitude of Linen, but man, the poppiness of the melodies, the perfect melodies come from McCartney. I'm going to go for Linen just because I want to buy the Mob-La-Lan-Lan-Pan forever, and I can't afford it. Alright. What's the most important song? lyrics, melody or rhythm? Oh. The best, you know, that's an unfair question because a perfect song has the three elements, you know, completely. Yeah.

3:58Sing what? What? Sing what? I'm writing the song you've written your most proud of. Probably astronaut. Astronauts, a song off this newest record. And to me, as far as like just from an artistic point of view and from a musical point of view is the one that I feel the most proud of. And the one that if I was to enter it in a songwriting contest, I would put that one out. And in one word, simple plan. Awesome! And in one word, I would say adventure. Because for me being in this band has been the most amazing adventure and it's been taken as to so many places in the world that I would have never been able to imagine. And it's really turned my life into an incredible adventure. Cool. Hey, what's up? Adventure is good.

4:43I like adventure. Yeah. Yeah. Adventure is unadventurous. Here we go.
