05Hey, it's Matt, it's day two of the Ottawa Blues Festival. We have quite the show for you today. We're going to do a little more Blues Trivia. I'm sitting in the best seats in the house here on the Bell stage, because it looks really cool behind me as they set up Zack Brown's stage. But we're going to do more Blues Trivia because it was fun yesterday. I thought we changed things up today, but now I'm thinking, I kind of want to do Blues Trivia with everyone. So we've got the crazy I had moose still as a prize that no one took yesterday, and then I was out for lunch with a friend this afternoon, and she said there's a really famous bagel place called Kettleman's Bagels here in Ottawa. And so we've got some bagels as prizes too. So it'll be fun. We'll see what the bands say when we pull out a bag of bagels and challenge them with some Blues Trivia. So we've got Frank Turner on the show today. We've got the straight band from California that brings back that Laurel Canyon sound like Cross. We still has a national cause. And we'll go check out she and him a little later tonight. But right now it's good chat with Frank Turner. We're doing some little different today.

10We're doing it's a Blues Fast. I'm slightly nervous. Don't be nervous. I think we'll have fun here. It's a Blues Fast. Would you be gentle with me? No, no, I'm just kidding. We're doing Blues Trivia. Do you know your Blues music? We'll go with the easy questions. We'll go with the easy ones. So we're playing for two separate prizes. A couple of the bands took some prizes yesterday. But what we have left over is... No, no, no, no. There's actually a really fresh prize. So there's Crazy Eyes Moose, very Canadian, right? Kind of cool for the tour of us. And then we're here in Ottawa. And I was at a friend's house for lunch. And she said Kettleman's Bagels are like the best bagels in the world. So we've got a bag of bagels. A bag of bagels? Right? So those are the two for today. Bagels are the moose. OK, all right. I mean, you want to play for? The moose. The moose. Put him in. I like bagels a lot.

55Is this to focus my mind? It is exactly. It's like play for this guy. Play for the moose. I should say I'm something of a music geek, but my field of expertise is more and punk rock and folk music. I figured it might be. But it's a blues fest. I got a blues fest. And I think as a musician, if you get this question wrong, I'd be shocked. The most popular blues chord progression is known by what? 12 bar blues, 8 bar blues or 16. 12 bar. 12 bar blues is correct. So this multiple choice? Some of them are. Some of them aren't. I can make the multiple choice if you get stuff. I think it's, you know what? I think don't give me the multiple choice first up. That should be my kind of fallback. OK. All right. That's not my phone, a friend. Because I would have got that one. OK. Yeah. Without anything. OK. If we ever do this again, no multiple choice. Blackie is a preferred guitar of which modern blues rock legend?

41You see, I know this one. You didn't want multiple choice. I'm not giving you multiple choice. Well, no, no. The idea is that I can request multiple choice if I can't get it off the top of it. I don't know if I can get off the top of that. Oh, give me multiple choice. Come on. I know this one. OK. Hendrix, B.B. King or Clapton? Oh, it's Clapton. Clapton is correct. Yeah. Who claimed to have sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads? Well, you know what? I'm going to dispute the question because it's Robert Johnson's here thinking of. Correct is the answer. I'm sure that he made the claim. I think other people made the claim about him. Really? Yeah. Interesting. There you go. OK. Still correct answer. Do I get a bonus point for that? You've four out of five so far. OK. I'm just identified with the blues. Oh, I'm OK. Correct. He's so far. You're the champion of this game. Really? Yeah, four for four. All right.

26Can you name this blues legend's nickname? His real name is McKinley Morgan Field. Oh, hello. McKinley. Is there multiple choice in this or is it just? It could be. I can figure something out. But it isn't listed on that McKinley. It's going to be someone like how in wolf or something like that. Someone's like that but not how in wolf. That was going to be one of the multiple choice questions. I think that error though. Muddy Waters. Muddy Waters correct. Five for five for you. Yeah. The moose is yours. Oh, really? OK. Well, I was nervous. I thought it was going to be a much more difficult thing. I've done well but you know you've now made me think that I should play a blues song today in my set. I hadn't really thought about that. Do you have them off top of your head? Like what would you play? Not off the top of my head but we got a little while till we got on so I could run.

11So check some sort of 12 bar blues. I'd probably do something solo. I mean but yeah, I could try and figure something. Oh, God. So, Matt lyrics or would you actually go and look up a song? No, no, as in yeah, I'd play a song. I'm either a cover or I've got a couple of kind of blues numbers myself but neither of them have I really played for a long time. So maybe I will try and... I'm going to be patiently waiting by the front of stage for this blues song now. You're going to see me. Yeah. OK, all right. We'll see how we do. Someone's got a shot. If you think you know the answer just show it up.

07We got prizes. Oh, my God. We only have one, everyone's taken most of the prize. We only have one prize left because you're the last interview of the day. So it's a famous place here in Ottawa. It's not a sandwich but it's not far off from a sandwich. Famous place here in Ottawa is a place called Petalman's Bagels. So we got a bag full of nice and fresh bagels. Yeah. So a little... Big game guys. So we're playing for bagels. Whoever wins gets the bag of bagels and you can divvy them up amongst yourselves however you like if you win the game. So we're going easy questions. As musicians you should all definitely know this answer. So shout it out first and you will get the point. The most popular blues chord progression is known by what? 145. That is correct not what I was looking for but that is correct in a different way. 12 bar blues.

5212 bar blues. Taylor on fire. I'll give Taylor one and a half to be fair. Blackie is the preferred guitar of which modern blues rock legend? Blackie. Clapton? Clapton is correct. New York. No that. Frank Turner just dispelled this one because he... I'll read the question anyway. Who claimed to have sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads? Robert Johnson. Judges who got that first? I have that point. Well because you already both each have a point. Robert Johnson. Robert Johnson. It's a 111. Amazing. After the guitar which instrument is most identified with the blues? No. No Monica. No Monica is correct.

37Yeah. All right and this is the hard one of the easy ones. This blues legends nickname is what I'm looking for. His real name is McKinley Morgan Field. What's his nickname? Everyone says Helen Wolfe, not Helen Wolfe. Money Waters. Taylor. I think he just took it. He beat you by like a half second. So what we'll do is we'll give the bagels away to everyone. Yeah. Yeah. All right, night's almost done here. Day two. First Fastback, Brown Bands on behind me. We're about to go check out She and Him. But thanks again to Dawes who are hilarious. Frank Turner. Amazing. Tomorrow on the show, Cold Specs fits in the tantrums and Sharon Van and it's going to be an amazing day. But I'm going to leave you with the star of the show. She's on the cover of a produce paper in this town. Zoe Deschanel, time for She and Him.
