00Alright, so you were a talk lard from pilot on the show a couple years back on the first album came out got a new record coming out in Canada New record, I guess kind of coming out in the States I want to start the show off with a new single barely listening heard it tonight for the first time live incredible What's that is that how the record sounds? Yeah, it's not why it was chosen to be the single. Yeah, I think so I think it's a good snapshot a bit more of a like raw sound like Before guys playing you know what I mean like not a lot of layered stuff, so Yeah, I guess it is kind of Indicative of the album. Yeah, cool. Let's play that one and talk about a whole bunch of stuff Shake it around stuff. Yeah, it looks better. I guess
41We were talking about the first record said you're listening a lot of pink Floyd radio head and of course you too Sounds coming out on this record too. Yeah, I don't know. I think we all kind of had our own things we were listening to and Like what? I don't know. I mean each guy was into their own thing. I think I mean I spent about two years listening to springsteen, so Maybe that shows up a bit. I don't know. I'm sure all the old influences are there as well, but yeah Who knows, you know, it's not for me to say what things sounds like. I mean, I'm sure that stuff's snuck in somewhere I don't know. Yeah, you also mentioned Hoxie work when we were talking about the first record last time and how he made you see and after talking As well, I totally know what you mean and how anything could be done on a record and like there are no boundaries Totally how do you do that this time around? Um, was it influences time around the Hoxie?
30I don't know. I'm sure in some way like, you know, we just We all kind of like enjoy his music and enjoy his performing so um He's definitely one of those guys that you learn a bit from when you see him play and but um, yeah, I think Certainly we did a lot more on this album like in terms of Experimenting and and yeah trying different things, but you know, it's still a lot of room to go there as well Definitely well, there's oh, there always is I mean, it's music right? Yeah, no forever Got a new record coming out self sell control for live speed. I want to play another tune off the opening track And I've gracie which you opened the set with tonight. Mm-hmm opens the album opens the set How come why that song? Uh Oh, it just seems to build into something and Yeah, the lyric of the album lyric is from the song. I don't know. It just seemed a good starter on the album and it's has worked off and on live
22like Lost my better than tonight, but yeah, no, it sounded good tonight. Come on now, but um, yeah, it seems to work, you know, I mean I'm excited about getting on some bigger stages and Get getting the lights back going again and seeing how that can add to the tune. I mean when you're playing Small club every now and then like Yeah, you can't do a lot with the atmosphere and And the lighting but I'm excited to see where that can go to I want to talk about a small club thing in a second, but let's play ninth gracie and then come back Third knife gracie off a new pilot record. It's self control for live speed talking here with Todd Clark from the band playing a small club
44You're 200 people I think is the vibram. How is that for you? I mean coming from Canada where you guys are massive Yeah, well, yeah, you're in the big bands in Canada. Yeah, we did. We do fine. You know, it's nice to step back every now And then you just you got kind of cozy and used to having good sound and lots of room and everything working and So it is kind of It shows you where you are every now and then, you know, you might be doing well in your own country, but you're starting everywhere else Do you feel the need to try and like, you know, get the crowds attention, you know, build them up to them? Yeah, you know, you have people might not know who you are so you've got to really To get their attention. I guess it is different Certainly a Lot of people would probably say it's nice to play small stages and go back to the clubs every now and then Maybe I think that's a bit of bullshit
34It's cool for the I think it's great for the fans and you get really close and intimate And then it's kind of cool as a band to be really that close to people and have them right on top of you Um, yeah, it sure is a nice having the control of the big stages in the big rooms Do you notice it being on stage people, you know, I mean in Canada Obviously everyone's singing along and stuff. Do you notice it here? Were people singing along? I mean, I was at the back. I was singing along with Oh, I was just really concentrating on not fucking up Tonight Got the new record coming out Where was it written? I know a lot of bands and second records always the road record really Took a beat on the road, but it doesn't seem that way No, no, we did most of it in Toronto and recorded most of it in Vancouver Yeah, we're not we don't really write a lot on the road like I'll come up with ideas and sound check and stuff like that
19But um, yeah, we really took about three months to just write And that's where a bulk the bulk of the material came from for sure same producer. Yeah, same producer different we Were committed to having someone else mix it this time. So we had Jim Scott Um, uh, the guy who lives actually here in LA do the mixing and he did a great job. Yeah, cool Um, like I mentioned like before we get on the air, um new Canadian album comes at April 25th Outbound the states in like a month time. So stuff you've already been playing like you said I mean, it's not a big deal. You're still playing the songs anyways But what's it like having two records come out at the same time and they're completely different? I'm not sure. We'll see how it goes really but I mean I think we're hoping to get the last one out here and then quickly follow it up with the new one Um, but yeah, it might be a bit strange, but we'll see. We'll see how it goes
09There plans for a single little Tier or here. Yeah, they're thinking they're doing hideout as the first single here. So I'm a good tonight So yeah, we're doing the acoustic Is there a way to get my hands on a lot of version of that? I'm not sure we just did one on radio 103 today On indy 103 we're down there. We did an acoustic one today But yeah, hopefully we can get some live stuff up on the site soon. We don't really record a lot of shows I was playing to your headaches. You were talking about it and I love that too I
10Need to bring the guys back to that part of the world
31I kind of ended it. Yeah, I kind of ended up as tour guide. I mean, I don't know Australia as well as I know back home in New Zealand, but you know, I know enough, you know, you know where to go Um, no, I didn't have time actually I keep saying every next time I go there I'm gonna do that but I've been there twice now in the last year and I haven't done it either time But I gotta get it together You look tired Well, I know five questions five quick questions one word answers sure I potter CDs CDs McCartney Elko Um I love don't steer on the second album this song called don't steer um And probably the true answer to that question is the one that hasn't been written yet
19Yeah And one word first thing pops in your head pilot Sincere cool. Thanks to I appreciate it. No worries. Thank you man. What do you want to hear from our album? Yeah Or from anything man if you well, I love your uh back streets by Bruce Springsteen
