00Alright, well we got the guys from Current Swell in Studio. Thanks so much for joining us. Thanks for having us. You're gonna play some tunes, some cool tunes. Yeah. I see all this, you guys brought literally everything. I said, bring some guitars and you brought a trombone, you brought drums, you bought slide guitar and I said amps. Why not, hey? Well, yeah, why not? Everyone had to carry two things up was the rule. Well, that's good. I like that. Yeah. And I'm sure everyone else will like that as well. Because better than going back down to the Vanning, grabbing a bunch more. No, no, there's no trips. You can't. Exactly. And especially when a seven floors up. One trip, very important. So Pawn Shop tonight, how's the tour going? You guys been on the road for about a week? Such a fun tour. Yeah, no, we've only had two shows but they've all been, you know, like we played Wednesday night in Kamloops and it was just packed and last night was sold out in Kelowna at the Communithee.
45Kamloops. Sorry. It's a different province altogether. I know. It just sounds so like Kamloops. That's true. Kelowna. And I'm sure you've played both towns many a time at this point. We do this thing on the show called Five Questions, Five Quick Questions, One Word Answers. You guys can all answer if you want. Well, that'll, that'll, that'll. Then we can make a sentence out of a word. You could. It won't make sense by the end probably with this group of guys. Well, we'll give it a shot anyway. Road or studio? 50-50. Road. Road. Oh, I love the studio though. Like studios and working on a new album? What do you prefer, do you prefer being on the road and live in the life or do you prefer being at home being able to go into the studio? Road. Considering we're about to make a new album, I would say studio. Yeah, I'm going to say studio as well. So it's kind of split in the band.
31That's cool. Lening or McCartney? Lening. Lening. Hands down. Lening. Easy, easy. Gavors? I really like Paul McCartney. He loves Paul McCartney. I can only one. Even the 80s stuff and the 90s stuff? I'm just talking with like, you know, the Beatles. Right. Fair enough. Fair enough. But we always have this conversation. Everyone's slamming McCartney and I'm like, come on. No, I'll defend him too. Some of the solo discs not so much, but I'll defend him too. What's important thing in a song? lyrics, melody or cadence? Ooh. Ooh. Lyrics. Yeah, I say lyrics too. Oh, man, it depends on if you're listening to the most garbage with great lyrics. I'm going to go with melody. Lyrics, cadence, and I can't answer. I don't know. Scott's having some trouble with this one.
16I'm going to let that one go. Being a songwriter, it's tough for you. You need it all almost to make a good song, right? How does... Sorry, go ahead, Go Steve. I've got all different little pieces that make up a song and it's trying to separate the mode. It's kind of like saying is the bricks or the cement more important part of the house. There's not a house without it all. You're making fun of my questions. Oh, no, I know what you're doing. I said, you know what I'm going to give us one word. Song you've written you're most proud of. What do you think? I would say that we have a song called Brad's song that I wrote a little while ago for a good friend of ours who's actually born in... Well, Brad in Edmonton area here. Brad's a good friend of ours.
03He passed away a year ago and I had this song written about him. It's been getting a lot of good feedback and we all feel it every night. So I would say that's my... I'm most proud of that. Because everyone can feel it. I think we're all proud of it. But that would be my answer. Once I give you a thumbs up, you agree? Well, I mean it's like, you know what I've told people is that it's our most revealing song. That's usually the one. Everyone else agrees? Yeah, no, it's good. I don't know. As a song, I don't know what my favorite would be. It's like a... They're all your babies, right? And we do so much different kind of music, right? So we have these kind of folky songs and we have these pretty rocking songs. Sometimes my favorite song in the world to play is like if one of ours is coming home
49but sometimes it's torture because it's so long that you're just like, when is this song going to be over? But yeah, definitely for new songs that is definitely my favorite new brad song. It's definitely a lot of fun to play right now. And before we get you guys to play Current Swell Live in Studio, by the way, at the pawn shop tonight, one word, Current Swell. One word. That's two words. Funny. You really make fun of everything I've got here tonight. I do like this game though. I want to make it. Even though you are the one not answering anything. It's true though. And there's something to go to a sound like to one of these radio interviews. I mean, can we play this game? It's called like five questions. No, people can't steal my game. That's my game. They'll be like, we have some revisions though. Current Swell. One word. First thing that comes to your heads. Well, I'm going to say surfing, even though surfing works.
37Surfing works. But I'm going to say best. Inside joke. Inside joke. Inside joke. That is so hard, man. Especially because that name kind of just was a fluke. We didn't even pick it. We just. It's a good band in the works. It does work. It's been, it's definitely been really good for us for sure for what we do and stuff like that. I'm going to go on New Age, Hippy, and I'm going to say energy. Oh, very nice. It's kind of what I think that. Escalination. I'm going to say life. Life. That's a good one. From the back. Trombone. There's only three things that are in my head right now. Oh no. Can you say it? I'm not ready. I'm not going to say Trombone. So we're going to play, well you guys are going to play the single that we play all the time cursed.
23A little stripped down, but not really still pretty rockin' version here live in the studio. Who wrote that? How'd that one come about? Tell us about that song. I wrote that song just before we actually stepped in. We kind of, our last album when we recorded it, our manager was like, no, you're going in the studio right now. We're like squawking about how we didn't really have the material that we wanted to go in the studio with. We literally just kind of, that song fell into my lap one afternoon just before the studio. It's just kind of about people that are higher up in the world telling you what to do, kind of thing, when you don't want to be told what to do. Nice. It's current swell live in studio cursed. On the sound. One, two, three, four. Well I just got to get this one off my chest.
44Yeah, you're most successful, that don't really mean that you know what's this. Well I ain't no fool, I work hard, man. We'll leap into the nights. You know no fool, and we'll nothing that you're doing in the ride. They all just throw it all and you can go and say it right there. I'll just throw it all away. You got never been missing, man. When they got down there, I'm be wishin' all they was there.
30Even if you're listenin' well, instead we'll have been a mission for you to kill. Cause I ain't no fool, I work hard, man. We'll leap into the nights. Well I'm bein' my fool, and we'll nothing that you're doing in the ride. You say you know best and I say you know worse. You're tellin' us that we're all blessed, I'm tellin' y'all we're cursed. I won't just remember the man, now I get stuck. We're only doing your good things, but I'm gonna get nothing more bad. I'm getting nothing with your bad luck.
16Hey. Yeah, Currents Well, Live in Studio 95.7, the sound. I'm Matt, the guys are here performing live for you.
03You can go check them out at the pawn shop as well. Door's open at nine o'clock. I love the slide guitar on that tune. And I love this next tune that you're gonna play for us as well. I heard you guys practicing it before. It's a new song, and everyone's playing out. There's trombone, there's lots of vocals. Is that a direction that you guys are gonna be going in? A lot of harmonies and stuff? I don't know if that particular song is like a direction as much as it was like just one of those things that spontaneously sort of happened. We were on tour a little while back in Australia, just kind of at a friend's place doing a barbecue kind of thing. And it's just one of those jams that kind of just kind of sprung out and took on a bit of a life of its own. So it's not like a conscious direction or anything like that. Yeah, that song was actually pretty funny because the barbecue he's talking about, we were doing a little bit of film in and just having a good old time.
54And we put that little clip in our up on YouTube and all of a sudden people started emailing us like constantly like, what is that song at the very end of that video? We were like, well maybe we should turn that into an actual song. So this is our crack at making that an actual song. So yeah, kind of strange, but you can actually go on YouTube and see the song being written on the spot. That's cool. And that's sometimes how it happens. Sometimes you can work on a song for years and sometimes it just writes itself. What's it called? Bring it back. Bring it back. Current swell, pawn shop tonight. You guys are on late, but the doors are open at nine. There's some fantastic openers as well. And you guys are going to play a song? Here we go. Current swell, live, 95, 7, the sound.
