03Hello, bonjour patric! Bonjour! How are you? Not bad yourself. I'm doing well What so what brings you to this part of the country for those who don't know? Well, I was inducted to the Canis Sports all of Fame, which is beautiful honor to me. I mean brings me Bring me brings me back to Calgary and obviously when I think about Calgary, I think about 1986 I guess not that people in Calgary will prefer thinking of 89. Yep. I rather Know it was a great moment in my career And it was a very important one in a way that they really give a lift to my career and I and allowed me to show that I was Capable to to help a team to win a Stanley Cup then it started here and I thought it was it was it's nice to be here today
49And then and you know what what I really appreciate the most I think of all this I mean, yes, there brings me a lot of memories But also I mean it gives me the time to take some time off from my junior team and and and appreciate What happened in my career, but also what happened in different athletes in their career? And I think that's the fun part I mean be here today with shot alpets clas I look brassau Jacques Villeneuve and and and the ones are inducted today and then the ones who already in It helps you to look at it and say, you know, these people have done at the same passion and the same desire to win I mean they they made a difference in their sports and It's nice. It's a really nice honor. I mean, it's not just about hockey. I mean, it's it's about different other sports
35Then and it's nice to be here. It seems it seems Quebec sports as well from everyone you just named Well, I mean I gave you the names of the the the people that were here with me today Then right the easiest one added mine, but I mean there's a different other ones of course Oh, I know who taught I want to just get into the beginning here Who taught you the butterfly because we associate it with you right nowadays. It's it's pat it pat was butterfly But I mean you must learn from somebody yes I mean when I was younger at two idols the first one was like a scene of a show he was it was very athletic I mean he was it was very fast and then Daniel Bouchal was playing was my second idol and and and I guess he was challenging a lot the players and then Daniel Bouchal was more conservative
21He was staying more deep in his net, but he had a bit of a butterfly style and then I met Francois Lai and With Francois Lai. I mean he was very open to this I mean I remember just to start with I remember with with the Montreal Canadian's when I was drafted They gave me a tape of Pelly Lindbergh and he said this is the way we like you to play I was looking at the tape and I said I don't think there's a chance for me to play any child if I played that way and But good thing is I met Francois Lai and he was very open on this On the on playing that position he had a great vision And I thought there was it was a good the good mix for both of us to be honest with you How difficult is it to be a goaltender Montreal because we hear about Kerry Price now and and all the
07Slacky's taking well you asked the question to Kerry Price after the first exhibition game you probably say to you it's very tough But after last night's he probably say it's probably one of the best place to be Then then it just gave you an idea I mean obviously when when things are going well, it's the best place to play hockey But when things are not going as well. I mean it could go I'm not saying the opposite But I mean it's certainly more difficult But it's it's important to to live in the present world and it's very important to be on ball and make sure that You don't be too high after winning and too low after losses and and and that seems like Kerry does a pretty good job dealing With that you still watch every game or you still I'd be lying to you if I do
53I'm very involved with junior and then we have we also have a pretty tight schedule But when I have a chance I will watch games I mean I like to see what happens and what different I look at in a different perspective I mean now I'm looking out what coaches gonna do is system wise and then and what can I bring on the table for my For my young players and if things that and the changes have been made also I mean the game improved year after year and I think it's important to stay update on that I heard you got offered the avalanche coaching spot but turned it down. Well, it was it was a great opportunity we had a lot of discussion Carolina and myself and I Thought it was better for me to I stay and go back. I
40Really enjoy working with players from 16 to 20 I think I I could give back to our game and I could help them not just in the game of hockey but in In different world. I mean different business one day and stuff like that And I think I could make a difference in their life and and I feel comfortable. I feel good about it and and also I'm Very close with my children and it's important for me to be around them. I mean they made so much so many sacrifice and Early in my career. I mean it was a lot of way and then being with them. I mean It's great moments for me, but also I Like the freedom. I mean junior is yes, you're busy during the season, but the off season is great
27I mean I play golf in my friends and then the you know the lifestyle is also very important at this stage of my life Right what if Montreal came to you and offered you the job? You still get to be close to the edge. They have a very good coach right now in Jacques Mattie I mean he's true a very good job And and I'm sure the ease gonna be there for a long time then you could ask me the question another time of course It's difficult when I played in Montreal enjoy every minute of it Except for the last 40 maybe in any chol for you a job I mean it's you have to look at it you have to think about it But at the end you have to to do it for the right reasons I grew up Montreal I remember 1995 and I remember the game and just feeling for you the whole time like why wouldn't they not take you out?
15And I remember hearing that was that was not 85, but no 95 Yeah, 95 you're right. Yeah, and I remember thinking did you know like when did you decide? I don't want to do this for you anymore. This is not worth it for me Well, I think it happens. I mean when I when I was looking at the bench and I see the reaction from the bench and I said That's it for me. I mean it was just feel that there was It was no longer the Situation that I thought it was Was good for both side. I mean I wanted to win a Stanley Cup I mean They were talking more about making the playoffs and then I believe that we were one or two players to To go very far in the playoffs and you know what I mean
00the the avalanche the same year played the Panthers and And then we could have been the Panthers no doubt about it And and seems like every time you're talking about winning a Stanley Cup It was not welcome from from them I mean they didn't want to feel the pressure then it was it was time for me to move on I mean it just it was maybe not just that the good way to do in it And and but at the same time I mean I think we were at a stage where it was better for both of us to take different directions And if you want to cut that year didn't you I remember that correctly? I guess it was a good decision Why it was in a way but at the same time was difficult to leave Montreal of course so many good memories there a lot of friends. I mean I
48We were it was not it was it was not that easy moving to Colorado I mean none of us were speaking very well in English I mean my children was they they were going French cool But at the same time I mean it turned to be a great experience and and turned to be a great situation for us We do something on the show called five questions five quick questions one word answers. Okay Canadians are avalanche Should I answer this one Japon Skiwi both both all right Lennener McCartney I'd say McCartney saw Chuck or plon't saw Chuck Broder or Hashiach Broder in one word Patriquois Warrior oh nice good word
