00Margaret, chose on the phone fantastic comedian, now a singer, star of dancing with the stars as well. So tell me what the show is about, you're at the Windspear tomorrow night. Yeah, it's music, but it's also a lot of material that I've been writing of different things about my family and getting older and also my participation on dancing with the stars, it's happening right now. So lots of good stuff, should be great. So are you practicing in Calgary right now? Yeah, dancing in the streets? I'm in a dance studio right now, my partner has just stepped out into the hallway, so it's like my one break from sweating. Oh well, I'm glad I could have bludged. Yeah, and we're just taking a momentary breather, but yeah, we've been dancing all night, like last night we danced still really late, and then my bus is parked right outside the dance studio,

48so we slept here and got up early in the morning to dance again. So how much work goes into it? Do you even, is the comedy, is the show like just the second thing in your life right now? Well, the show, to me it's the show's always the most important thing, but the show is kind of like I'm glad I get to do the shows because it's the one time of the day that my feet aren't bleeding. Right, fair enough. That's good. That is good. So what made you make a record? I mean, I know Ben Lee's on there, we got Calgary's own Tegan and Sarah, Brendan Benson. Absolutely, it probably does qualify for Juno because there's so many Canadians on it. I worked with Tegan and Sarah and Tommy Chong and A.C. Newman. Right. So there's a lot, and I've been, I collaborate with a lot of Canadians,

37people like Kevin Drew, Broken Social Scene. So you have gotten to know Kevin Drew because I saw the hour where George called him for you. Yes, yes. I have gotten to know him and we are in the process of writing the song together. And I've also recorded something with Lucas Silverira, the clicks, which is fantastic to Roger Band. Right. So... And they do a timbre like cover. I'm trying to get a... I want to do no, basically. Okay, well, we'll try and help you out with that. How are you doing the songs live? Are you playing the songs live? You must be. I'm playing a little bit. I'm also singing to track. That's what I'm going to say. Do you have a band or not? No, I don't have a band. I want to retain the production integrity because the album is so lavishly produced and so I want to have that big sound.

22How do you break into song? How do you switch from comedy to song? Is it just like a musical where it just happens? The songs are jokes too. So it's all stand up comedy. To me, there's no real break. To me, it's all a stand up comedy show no matter what. So the songs are just part of it. That's cool. How different is the act from the last, the beautiful tour? It's all new material. So it's all different. It's all brand new. And so I'm excited about doing it. I've been living in the deep south in a very small town called Peachtree City for the last couple of years working on Drop De Diva, which is a TV show that I work on. So I've been really excited to get out there and do new material. Cool. We do this thing on the show every day called Five Questions.

08Five Quick Questions, one word answers. Okay. Singing or dancing? Leonard McCartney. Leonard. The next tattoo you're going to get. Probably nothing. I think I might not have room. That's even though that's more than one word. Oh, that's okay. That's okay. Bit you've written your most proud of. Uh, Asian Chicken Salad. Asian Chicken Salad. One word Margaret Cho. Fabulous.
