04Hey, how are you? I'm great. Yeah big movie opening today. Yes, very excited I can imagine I is after all the weeks of work. It's finally out there for the public to see I know I'm so happy to be able to finally sort of talk about it Yeah, you have to keep keep things under wraps for quite a while now Yes, it's been such a secret. Okay. Well spill the beans. So what is this movie super 8? What what can you give us? Well, it's about a group of six friends and they're making a super 8 zombie movie Mm-hmm and while they're while they're making their little movie This whole train crash No happens and they're stuck in in the middle of it in a way and and something escapes from the train
51Something escapes from the train. Okay, so you're not gonna tell us what it is and I don't think I want you to tell us what it is actually I think I want to be a surprise. Yeah, exactly. How was that was it for you? This is like your first big like this is this is your film basically Well, I went from Somewhere which was a really small film Not many people were on the crew and in Sophia. She talks very softly and it's totally different So and then from that to total opposite which was super 8 which was a huge crew and JJ's on a microphone talking to everybody and there's All these explosions and fire and you know such a different experience. I'd never done something that was that big before What do you prefer what's what have you liked better because you said somewhere?
39It must have just been shot at the Marmot right just in the hotel room pretty much from what I've heard Yeah, I'm both of them. I think they're definitely different because since somewhere was mostly just all adults You know and then and super eight I had you know friends and so I we could definitely actually and Lost the laughing on set. I saw a clip of the film where your zombie your character Alice is a zombie So so there's zombies in this film too There are because the movie that we're making is a zombie movie So when when my character Alice is playing this is halfway and She does on the in the little movie It must have been nice that as well. That was really fun I loved all the makeup and the blood and getting to act like like when it was very fun
26So it's a JJ Abrams film But Spielberg produced it and from what I've seen to the film it looks like a Spielberg film from 30 years ago Way before your time before my time to have you seen those old like close encounters and ET and all those old Spielberg films I feel like of course like ET in the goonies like those are classics. Yeah I have to see those films and I think the super eight is sort of an homage to those films because JJ watched Those and was inspired by those and he was a kid and he was one of those boys making all the movies and for my generation I think there needs to be a new one of those because there hasn't been one in a long time Yeah, I'm glad you said that because I was thinking a lot of these films the sci-fi ones are 16 plus 18 plus They're good for a little bit older of an audience. There's nothing for the 12 13 year olds anymore in this kind of genre
11And hopefully it could be sort of added on to the list of those other Yeah, it'd be nice to be nice for your career for sure I want to get back to Spielberg though Just one more question on him a producer because I don't think a lot of people and I don't even know what a producer does I know they do a lot of behind the scenes stuff But is he on set the whole time as well working and saying now maybe that shots not good Yeah, well he came on set a couple of times and that's when you know He was really talking to JJ. He was super involved and and everything But I think he also wanted to be sort of JJ because he wrote it and and he was directing it But of seeing them together and actually seeing them in the same room Like I just sort of blows your mind. You can't believe that you're actually looking at them talking to each other
56It's crazy. You know what I like talking to you about is that you're still I don't want to say starstruck But you're still loving every second of doing what you're doing aren't you? Yeah, yeah Yeah, and you should be right like this is this is what most kids dream about I think yeah I was I was reading someone JJ the other day. He's saying that the diner scene is one of his favorites in the entire film Is it one of yours as well? Yes, and I I think I know why he said that that scene was the the funniest Scene to shoot it was hilarious It was it was crazy because all of us could not stop laughing JJ like included It was great. I think it we were all sort of stuck together in a booth and we were just constantly Just laughing I actually physically had to like turn around in the booth to get through the different shots
48Well, we'll all look for that one then see when you turn away. We know you're just dying laughter You talked about somewhere there was Sophia copa I hear you're working with her father soon or you have already Yeah, we finished that one to movie called Twix and yes, he's He was that wasn't really something incredible Yeah, that was insane because he we filmed it in Napa Valley on His property there like on his vineyard. So I got his house and he's like my grandpa How does his style of direction differ from Sophia's well Sophia's definitely very she's very quiet And you know very soft how she speaks it's so soft and And he's like a big Italian guy
37But they're set or are the same because they're both very small. Oh, okay So you said Twix is next what's next for you though? What are you what are you shooting next? Well, there's a lot. There's a movie coming out in December called we bought a zoo with Cameron Crow Oh, you're working with everybody hey Yeah, that David and Scarlett Johansson are in that one We do something on the show called five questions before I let you go because I know you're busy You probably have another hundred of these to do today. So you're my last one. Am I really? Yeah, wow are you excited? What are you gonna do for the day? Wow, well, you know, I haven't really planned out yet. I might go to ballet later in the day. Mm-hmm. You ballet So you're a ballet dancer? Yes, I go five days a week. Oh, do you want to do that? Would you like to do like a black swan film kind of thing? I would love to do that. I ballet is definitely the hardest thing I'll ever do really I
27Yeah, I really do it like hardcore. All right That's a good segue into the five questions thing. All right five quick questions one word answers ballet or acting. Oh That's too hard. Oh, come on like ballet in a movie. Okay. All right. We'll take that sure This this might be before your time, but I hope it's not Lennon or McCartney You have to have both of them to make up the Beatles. That's true. Okay I'll give you a pass on that one, but you can't say both for this one. Okay JJ Abrams or Steven Spielberg That is so hard. Okay, fine here. This one this one might be a little easier for you rule that you're most proud of Wow
13probably Somewhere and super eight cool those two were those two were the ones that I That I got to do most in and they're total opposite as well. Oh, yeah for sure. That's good. Yeah Yeah, and in one word L fanning Wow
