0:03What are you doing? Not too bad. It's nice to meet you. Yeah. You had my heart racing for about three weeks in December. You had the whole country racing. Do you notice that when you're playing a game? Do you think about that? Like especially with the last two rules there at the end of the World Junior's? I'm not really. I mean, you're kind of just in the moment and you just play hockey and you don't really think about stuff like that. But it's exciting you get into a tournament like that and you know you got all counted behind you and you know it's nice to be able to come up like that but you know it's tough the way it ended. Now you've had some time to reflect back on it. Do you realize how big of a thing it was? Yeah. You know you look back at the Ottawa tournament and even the last ones ask you to.
0:52You know growing up as a kid that tournament is huge. You know it's so much fun to play in and to watch it is just unbelievable. So you know to do it you know in home country twice it's pretty special. And almost a whole audience and almost hometown in a way. Yeah, yeah the camp was in Regina and you know I'm born and raised there in Home Province. You know it was special you know for sure just for me and there's a couple of other Shenan cow in from that area and you know it's awesome. Like I said that tournament has so prestigious to us Canadians you know we want to win it every year and you know came up short this year. I was close enough. Which was disappointing but you know it's you have so much fun and it's such a great experience.
1:37What are your earliest memories of hockey? You know I started at a young age I think around two or three and you know I remember you know we had outdoor ice in our backyard I remember you know skating around out there and you know I have two older sisters and younger brother who also played hockey and you know even as an older kid we always wrote their playing and I just kind of grew up in a hockey family. What was your team? I played in Regina for the Regina Kings. The Regina Kings was the dominant team in Regina. So were you an LA Kings fan or was it just kind of worked out that way? Actually I was an Oilers fan. Living in Calgary? No I was actually born and raised in Regina and you know we don't have a team there so you
2:22get to kind of get your pecs. Or it had been kind of been my team for a while and you know I was lucky enough to get the chose by. Now did you say is that the truth or are you just saying that since you got drafted? No I have to say that's your tip. You know actually it's surprising if it was I was kind of ranked in the position where they had to pick and that's actually where I wanted to go and I was lucky enough. There you go. So what's the deal with the Oilers for you at the moment? I mean obviously I want to play there. It was my goal to play there this year and you know it's tough when you have someone say that you're not good enough. And then they play so crappy so they can use you right now. I try not to focus on that. I mean my goal right now is trying to get this team into playoffs and you know it's something obviously as a kid you want to play the NHL and you know they're my team and draft it there
3:08and you know hopefully it gets a chance for it. Who are your ideal line mates? If you could have a dream line who do you want on your wings? Or do you want to be away from anyone in the NHL? Let's say you make the All-Star game next year. You know the two best players in the NHL. The Crawdovino Vetchkin. Those guys are unbelievable. But you want to receive a pass from Moore? Probably Crawdovino. He seems like he's got pretty good vision. Yeah. Vetchkin's got a good shot. Give the ****** him. There you go. Get that assist. Yeah. What is there a goalie that you like when I played I don't know why I hated Hashem. I just there was something about him. He just pissed me off. He used to stand on the net and be all lazy when everyone would be on the other end. Is there anyone you really want to score on more than anyone else? I mean the goal is he's the guy especially being from the West here in the others.
3:54He's such an unbelievable competitor and he's I think one of the best goal is. So you know either him or Bader would be an unbelievable score. You know I'm a brother for sure. One last question. Your buddy Corey made the head shots. What's going on? What's your thoughts on that? Well I mean it's tough. Obviously you watch the hit and you got his elbow up. You know the guy that he is he's such an unbelievable guy. He was our leader on Team Canada. And you know it's so tough to see you know a buddy like that go down and get the penalization that he did. I think he was fair. Yeah you know it's I talked to him after and you know he there's no intention of hurting and when you're on the ice you're trying to play on that edge. I think you just went over it and you know I guess you take it and you learn from it really.
4:42Thank you man. Appreciate it. Yep.
0:03What's going on man? Not too much over here. I'm doing well. How you feeling? Good. Well, you're now an Euler. We talked last year. Oh God. You were playing in red deer after a game. We had a little chat and you talked about it being your dream gig. You were an Euler's fan as a kid and I asked you were you really an Euler's fan as a kid or do you just have to say that you said no you really were. So this must be one hell of a year for you. Yeah, it's been awesome. You know, just not only that but your first year in the NHL. It's been pretty neat. So they had to adapt quick. Obviously to the speed and everything but pretty good. Is that in the hardest part? The speed I was going to ask you what's the hardest thing? I don't know if that's been the hardest part. I don't even know if there has been obviously a hard part. I think it's been very well. I think
0:49it's been more. I mean obviously the life that you got to take care of yourself, you got to take care of your body. I mean the season's been so strenuous. You have to make sure you're doing the right things in order to play well the whole 82. Yeah, what's been easier? What came easier than you thought it would? I think just the game. I think for the most part when you're playing with better players it helps. You're getting better paths on your sticks and you're getting plays where you make a bad pass. Some guys still handle it. So that's a lot easier. How comparative was it to playing for Team Canada? Because I mean you're playing with a more elite group there as well. Yeah, you know what it is. It is similar. You're very close. And in the HL2 it goes to the elite too. It's pretty similar as well. I think I had a lot of help preparation before I even got
1:42to league as far as the world juniors and the AHL and even the world championships. That has definitely helped prepare me for it. In regards to the AHL it must have kind of hurt at the time to be playing in the end, not to be called up. But you're saying now it was probably a better experience for you. You probably helped in the long run. Yeah, it was actually I wanted to come play obviously and hopefully get a few NHL games. But it was what they wanted and they wanted to develop. So I went down there got some confidence. Played pretty well and ended pretty well. So I enjoyed it in the AHL. I mean those guys that league is very good league. It's not easy. So you definitely gained some respect. How are you feeling? I know we talked about the South Air before but you know it must be weird for you to have not played in almost a month.
2:30Yeah, it's been tough. I've never really missed a game with an injury and yeah it's definitely been tough to try and get back. You're watching hockey and you want to be out there as quick as you can. Are you noticing things different about the team now that you can sit back and watch? I think you see a little bit from upstairs. The game definitely easier from upstairs. If you pick up little things as far as tendencies that that's getting a guy it probably helps to watch a couple games from upstairs. But you never want to be up there too much. No of course not. How are you recuperating in terms of the all-star game you think you're going to be ready for the rookies game? Yeah I think so. I think I'll be ready
3:18maybe the end of the week or the next game after that. So actually today was my best day. I had a great skate today. It felt really good. It's nice to know that finally getting close. What are your thoughts on the all-star format on this new way of doing things? It's different. I think it's exciting for the fans. We obviously get to see a new approach to it. I'm not sure how it works for the rookies if they're getting drafted or not but you know if it'll be neat to kind of be there for me I know Taylor and I've seen some of those guys and so. Right it's going to be interesting for some players you don't get drafted too high that got drafted in the first round. It might be like a little ego stump to some. It could be yeah but I think at the same time I mean you're at the all-star game and I don't
4:04think you can kick yourself too much. No that's a very good point. That's a very good point. What is going to be your skills competition specialty? I don't know yet you know what I'm not sure. I guess we'll find out when we get there. So I can't see it being a hardest shot or anything like that. Maybe the targets or something? Yeah you know that would be neat I'd like to do the targets but they all would do the people man. What was your favorite one watching when you were a kid? I think it was the targets you know. I loved watching that. That was definitely it. Cool. Ray Bork very good at that always. Yeah. I'm going to ask you this you don't need to answer because they might not let you but I'm wondering what they're telling you because obviously you know you guys are in a bit of a rebuilding mode at the moment. Did they make promises to you saying you know three years from now we're going to be one of the top teams you just got to give us some
4:49time kind of thing. You know there's no there's no promise I think everyone or team guys that we're going to rebuild but you know we want to win hockey games. It's not fun. You know it's not fun going to rank after you lose and it's not fun after all. So you know I think you want that winning case too and I mean you don't want to be able to go through the whole year losing and yes getting one on our team we want to win hockey games. So at the same time we're trying to get better every game and then try and learn stuff. I think that's been a key approach every day coming to the rink because we want to get better. I think the atmosphere even though that we haven't struggled lately at the rink it's been great and we have to keep that. Do you think the octane is helping? You know what I haven't it's tough actually since I've
5:41had a stand you'd seem a little bit more but you know I haven't you don't really notice the one of the ice. So I'm not sure what the fans think about it but I mean it's me it's different thing obviously it's somewhat like the all-star form. I mean they're bringing different things into kind of excited fans. Yeah you say it though with I hear a smile in your voice as you're talking about it though. Well you know it's it's uh it's definitely different. I mean obviously you've never seen cheerleaders in hockey you know I think some of the American teams have it but you know it's different but you know at the same time I guess that you try and get to bring some fan and some exciting the game. Before I let you go five quick questions one more answers. Greatest player of all time. We're in Gretzky. Lenin or McCartney? McCartney. Crosby or Ovechkin? Oh I don't know that's the top one. I should before they
6:32are able to sit at a Vatican but I don't say Crosby now. Cool. Proudest moment in hockey. First thing in chugging. And more really more than getting the tying goal last year. Yeah I mean you dream of playing in each other. Yeah. That's pretty neat. Cool no that's that's awesome. And in one word Jordan Everly. Oh one word um Pedro.
