01Well gentlemen welcome to the studio. Thank you very much. Buckets, blakes and a legend. I hate to not single you out here but you seem to be side. The all-time greatest traveler. Already know. Fred, curly nail. Lack of hair though. There you go. Been like this since I was 12. Yeah. Since you were 12. So started out. Fand in the neighborhood. Yeah. Very nice. So supposedly you can hit a shot from anywhere on the court. What about off the court? What about like first row of the seats? Oh, we've done it all kind of ways. But I'm doing it from back up in the concession stand. Oh yeah. I've done it all the way over there. You know even drop kicked a few in from hand cordon for a fourth. But it's been a fun thing for me over the years. I just enjoy what I'm doing. So what's your role with the team now?
47Are you like an ambassador of sorts? Ambassador, well, advance, ambassador. What's going around getting fans ready for the Globetries to come to town? Yeah. It's been a joy for me. I'm sure I'm for you as well. Definitely. Like you said earlier, look who I'm sitting next to. Yeah. You know, professional basketball player, not only that, a professional basketball player with the most famous team in the world, getting a chance to play with legends who are known all over the world. I mean those hands of, have shook the hands of Kings, Queens, Princes, Presidents, Popes, Popes, I mean just any royal families and anything you can think of that has some presidents to it. So getting an opportunity to be a part of something like this and be around such a legend,
35I mean what more can a guy ask for? Thank you. Not only that. Not only that. He smiles ear to ear every day. So how can you be down? Yeah, exactly. You know what he's done this for so many years and he's always smiling here to ear. And look at him as an age. And hopefully it rubs off on me. I try to hang him as a boss. So you're not playing right now? I guess the Globetreaders are on the road right now though. You got to give him lineups. Yes, so East Coast and the West Coast Tour, we're on North American Tour, we're going to cover 240 cities. And it's crazy. And the US and 7 Canadian provinces in a matter of the day after Christmas to the last week of April. That's not. So we cover that much ground. But not only that, there's several of us, five of us I'd say, out of the 28 guys who
24will go and currently include it, go ahead of the team and let everybody know the Globetrot is coming. Nice. So that's our role. We love to be the faces of the team. But we can still get back out there and play. Curly do some dribbling and getting to the magic circle. You can be out the ball. Sorry I can't. Yeah. But he won't be involved in the game in that matter. But if we really, really, really got on my hands and knees and bag. No, just to know what you're missing. It's about them, not me. I paid my dues. You're one on one versus Sweet Lou. I want to see you. Lou and I played together for years. So I lead to a buckets and other guys, a special case, Kudu, Han, Luke's Franklin, Anthony Atkinson, those guys, this is a new generation. So I take my head off to them, Mcoutillo, special group of guys.
11It's true. April 18th let people know at the Corral here in town 7 p.m. And I've seen you three, four times. Oh, they throughout my life. You don't want to trade all in Ontario. And it's fantastic. We've changed the dynamics of the game. That's a habit. I mean, we have a lot of traditional things in there that we're not going to ever get rid of. That's what's kept us around. These guys made so famous in their day with the bucket and fatty bucket of water. The dribble that they do, also half court hook shot. But now there's not only half court hook shot, but there's more trick shots. I don't want to let the cat out of the bag. No, don't. Some guys. Some more trick shots. Now, we got some, the glove drivers of this era are a little bit more dynamic. And the air, I'd say, you know, guys, I'm not going to say that about you.
00Yeah, yeah. What's the answer? Yeah. That's just, I mean, they used to dunk hard. Yeah. I'm going to get me wrong back then. But now guys are dunking hard while they're twisting their bodies in the air. And it's just all about what we're evolving. And that's what's keeping us fresh. And with the things that we've got from watching their video, I mean, we've added our own personality to it. And that's how things evolve. If they would have never started doing what they were doing, then the glove drivers would be stagnant. You know, it then stuck at the same, you know, era it was when they were there. But now they've shown us something. They gave us something to look at. And we're like, hey, our bodies are attached to different areas. So now let's add something to what they've done. And that's why the game of the glove drivers is always fresh every year. And I think that's what keeps people coming back for it.
45This is our 83rd consecutive season. That's insane. How good are the generals? Are they actually very good at the game? Very good. They play a basketball on some Division 1 and Division 2 players. We have a division 2, a couple of division 2 guys on our team. And one of them is a Division 2 national champion, great basketball player. Scored, I think, about 10 points in less than a minute to win the game. Wow. It's got Anthony Atkinson. Where he's like, Barton College. Barton College. Fast is like, that kid is fast. I mean, you know, the glove drivers are getting younger and younger every year. They can get older. You got to make the team every year, by the way, for those of you out there. I was going to say, how does one get drafted? Is there a draft? Do you seek them out? There's a scouting system. We were one of the first teams with the scouting system. You know, we've been around maybe 20 years long in the NBA.
31Yeah, yeah. And what it was is African Americans were not allowed to play in white-only leagues in the late 20s or early 30s. So in Jerusalem, we were promoted by the name of Abe Sabristine, seeked out some guys in Chicago. And he propositioned them to go around Barnstorm. And while they were going around Barnstorm, they started seeing other talent and inviting other guys. Those guys playing in college, you know, who wanted to be glove trotters. Will Chamberlain was in a spying glove. I heard Magic Johnson too. Yes, he was. He got Bill Cosby. Johnny Hopkins. Johnny Hopkins. So there's definitely some guys that not only can play the game of basketball at his highest level, but you know, we choose to be glove trotters because there's none other experience in the world like it. I'm sure.
16It's engaging with it itself. I've been in tons of countries. He's been around the world maybe a couple of times. Three times, the names of the countries. 97 countries. You know what I mean? Yeah. We could say that they've been to 97 countries. And not only that, touch the lives. You know, people in those countries. And enrich those lives. Yes. Yes. And made them laugh and made them smile. We got wonderful programs. Yeah, tell everybody about cheer. And without support. Before I get into cheer because that's one of our most important. We have a couple of other programs. We got Spain, which at some play time is necessary. Yeah. It's an acronym. We keep kids physically active. We encourage kids to be active. Whether it's dancing, you know, going out and playing with their friends or, you know, taking 60 minutes out of their day to be physically active because we're trying to fight child obesity.
01And then this mine and Curly's favorite is Smile Patrol. We visit hospitals. Over 200 hospitals a year. Some of the kids are so sick that they won't be able to go to school or make it to our games. So we come to them. You know. We have our school visits, which is cheer. And cheers in acronym. The C is cooperation. The H is healthy, minded, body. First E, effort, second E enthusiasm and the R is responsibility. You know, and those character traits, you know, like we try to encourage the kids to take them or take that formula and use it in their everyday lives. No one's perfect. As human beings, you know, we all apply those character traits to ourselves as Globetrotters everyday. So why not give these kids a foundation to stand on in case they come across them afterwards. Because I know it's kind of tough.
46Some of the kids want to be the most popular. Some want to be the best athlete. You know, the toughest kid on campus. But when you put those character traits in the action instead of just saying the words and their meanings, if you put them in the action, they'll definitely get you to where you want to go for the goals that you've set. Life. It is. It's a whole... The gold shirt is not just basketball, is it? Personality. You know, when you have charisma, you name so many things, you know, about being a Globetrot and being a person. Yeah, it's interesting. So we try to steal that into children. You mentioned college. We're in the middle of March right now. NCAA Finals. I think everyone's brackets. No one saw the final four the way they are right now.
33So what are you guys thinking? Who's taking it? Ty Hills! Ty Hills! I'm a Villanova guy. Did you expect him to make it this hard? Not at all, but I mean... I'm always the underdog guy though. I'm always pushed for the underdog. You know anything that's Carolina? Yeah. I'm always pushed for the underdog. That guy was always tough. Yeah. That guy was always tough. I was kind of sad for Phoenix, Arizona. Yeah. I was sad for... Arizona State. Arizona State. Arizona State. Yeah, Arizona State. Yeah, they were all cats. Yeah. They were all cats, but the... See them. Sun Devil. Yeah, those guys. They had a tough... They had a tough season though. I mean they did a great job. And I think the Pac-10 is a little bit underrated. Mm-hmm. You know, I think those guys,
18there's just a different style of basketball. That's true. And that... On the East, Southeast, North Carolina, there's more tradition there. The support there is... Oh, it's sick of you. Oh, it is. Yeah, I live there. I know. Oh, yeah. For sure. But at the same time, you know, I like individual players. I like guys who... I mean, I like fields from Pitt. I like flames. Pittsburgh, how does my winner? Blah. Blah, from Pitt. Yeah, Blah. I like the point guards who don't turn the ball over. Those two guys do not turn the ball over. No. And they got a lot of pressure put on them as point guards. Who's your team? I chose Pittsburg this year. Okay. Because the guy on the team has kept talking about Pittsburg. What do you do you have now? Don't know? Now I don't have them.
03I like it. I only have left his UNC. Wow. So, yeah, there we go. They just gave each other a pound, folks. Oh, yeah, no one can see that. No, a fist to fist. A fist bump. Hand-shaped bump. If you will. For people who don't like germs, they do that too. Right. Like how are they? They got a wash mat. Down to the trunk. Down to the trunk. Down to the trunk is a tube? Yeah. Have you met the trunk? Yes, I have. I spent the ball on his finger. Really? Is his hair, as everyone says, very... Like me. Like me. Yeah, he's actually totally mean. Really? He's a big guy. He just smells like money. I'm sure he does. Yeah. Yeah. Load it. Definitely a great guy. I met him at Skating with the Stars. And that was a program he did for the inner city kids of Harlem. They're trying to get the African-American kids in that area to ice skate.
52To take up ice skating. There's not... I mean you have to have American female gymnasts, but you don't have ice skaters. I mean, you have to have a female gymnast, but you don't have to have ice skaters. There's not... I mean you have to have American female gymnasts, but you don't have to have ice skaters. We got one here in Calgary. Oh, you're the best player in the drama, get one? Oh, yeah. You know, I mean, like ice figure skating. Oh, figure skating. Not the hot. Not the hot. You know what I'm talking about? The figure skating for those kids over there. And then he's doing a great job. Every year he has celebrities coming. They do a big thing and they send a few globe trailers. And I was fortunate enough to be one of them. That's fantastic. Just getting, making my way around, trying to help keep that star on Hollywood Walk of Fame alive.
37These guys, we're the only basketball team. I mean professional team, professional basketball team. Well, Hollywood Walk of Fame, we got to start it. That's cool. Interimulation. Why not go to skating with the stars, you know? And you know, actually we just start. Maybe one of these days you should do it. There was a little knee fixed. Yeah. Warren's sack is pretty good. He was pretty good. He missed Smith balls too. Yeah. And Jerry Rice. Yeah, those guys were phenomenal. They're all phenomenal. What's the most about? What's the most about Mr. Green? I don't know about Mr. Green. The track stuff. What was it? Maurice Green? I don't know about Maurice. He was a little stiff. He was a little stiff. He was dancing with the stars, man. He was a little stiff. He was a little stiff.
22He was a little stiff. He was a little stiff. You know what I look at? Not only the Globe Trollars, but other professional sports. And dancing and golf and things like that. They're artists. They're all artists. They paint their own pictures. They do something that's tough. I mean to dance, for some of them to stand on one leg and spin around, as many times as they do, and then jump into another move without being dizzy. I mean that's a talent. And it's so. I ask everybody that comes in five questions, one more answer. I'm going to change it up. It's usually musicians who got to do sports with athletes. Okay, hold on. So who's going to? You got some both answered. Let's get that mic up there for you.
07Okay. On the road or at home? Me? Yeah. At home. Both. You can't do it. Well, at home. I have grandkids. There you go. Oh, you buckets. On the road. There you go. Greatest player to ever play ball. Will Chamberlain. Michael Jordan. I was wondering who's going to go with which one? Cool. The wood was a glove charter. Well, I think you got to perform with the brand. Could the glove charter be an NBA team? Of course. Yes. What about the Cavaliers? Great team. Yeah. Great team. What do you take them right now? You mean what about the Cavaliers? Can we be? Can you take them right now? You know, can we give them a leg? Why does this happen? Why does this happen? How come there hasn't been a glove charter that may have yet? It has been. Back in the late season.
53That's how we started. Well, why not recently? Lakers when they had Joe's Mac and Jim Pollard. We actually had a game in Chicago Stadium, 20,000. The glove tries won. They've never played again and they've followed again. The glove tries won again. Well, we got to see it again. I want to see one in the game. Well, we've just partnered with the NBA for five-year partnership. But it's kind of to help promote each other. The Russian nation. Yeah, so. Children's property. You know, you never know. So we should have the best of seven NBA champions. Whoever wins this year against you guys in like July. That'd be nice. That'd be nice. I have no way to make this happen. We don't know either. Yeah. People will pay to see it for sure. People will pay to see it for sure. Your best stunt or trick. Put him in the ball and then pass it. That's right.
38I don't know if you beat that. Yeah, getting it to him for a second. So he can put the ball back on one side. And in one word, glove trotters. Phenomen. Institutional. I like it. Well, thank you very much, gentlemen. Thank you. April 18th. It's going to be around 7 p.m. to Saturday night. So it's nice and easy for people to get down there. And what happens after? I guess you guys are done in April? Well, after the game, we signed autographs for the kids. You know, 30 minutes we just formed a rope around the floor and signed the kids. They take autographs for children and their families. And we take pictures and shake hands. They have warm embraces and so forth. And, you know, fuck this ball would be there. Doing a few other things. Yeah, you get a chance meeting greetings and every play after the game. That's cool. Most accessible professional basketball team up. I would think so. And you need to have this after the game.
25Go home, glove trotters.com and read our bios. And you can email us through the website as well. We'll respond our own emails. That's the retired jersey right there at number 22. That's one of the one. I gave him one. Yeah, I sure. You got one of his balls. Nice. Yeah, I got it in my office. It's a friend. I got it in my office. You know, when people come over to visit, I take it down. Because I don't want them to take it from. It's an evil piece of merchandise. But, hey, somebody's coming over. I'm like, hold on. I'm like, call me before you come because I need to hide my curling mail journey. Curly, I got a question for you before we let you go. About buckets. I know he grew up with Mike Bibby. Who wins one-on-one? He does. You have to do it. My passion. If he's not listening, who wins? Well, I know what kind of ball play he is.
10He wins. He wins. I'm like defense, buddy. Yeah, I know. I had a team about five, six years ago up in Alaska. He's with me. I know what kind of ball play he is. He wins the shin show. He wins the shin show. Yes, he is. Well, thank you, gentlemen. I really appreciate you coming in with us. It's all a treat. Thanks for having us.
