06Hey, this is Dallas Smith and you're watching MSN exclusives You want to do a wall so I didn't want to win away any longer so you have five five six songs done So yeah, I wanted to get him on an EP and I'll take my time I don't want to rush out another five songs right so yeah, how are the five doing being received great?
55Yeah, I mean we get sort of towards them near the end of the steps and I That good problem to have But it's it's been great the new songs We're doing that tour with the floor to line coming up in pretty soon here, so I want to get the Get our legs under us with those new songs so this tour has been great for them Yeah, we had a lot of show a few weeks ago and they were talking about writing with you or writing for you Yeah, yeah, they actually I think come to know those guys We're with the same producer same management. We've worked a lot on the same studio as well, so Yeah, I got to know those guys and I guess they heard I was doing and had this song they think That's okay came your way. Yeah, they dropped it on my lap and
44There's a little bit out of my out of my own what I did with the first record that I've done but so Once I got the studio I was able to sing it What did you like about the first time you heard that like what drew you to? I will just the book in the course. It's one of those songs that's Yeah, I mean as soon as you hear that song That's happened to me in school. I knew that it was very very very memorable So those are the kind of songs of the same When I was listening to the E.P. this morning I didn't know what was gonna happen because I was big default and back yeah, or default default I was debating I see I tried to correct people with the nigga busted saying either or so But listening to it as soon as the first heavy guitar came in I was like oh, okay, so it's you still you still dig the rock
33So definitely gonna walk that line. Yeah. Yeah, which must be an interesting one to tell Well, I think I might try to do that 10 years ago I think it would have been a lot more difficult than what it is now I mean I think country music is so whole generation of kids that grew up with country music But also on the household it wasn't just country was you know, it's like myself For example, I grew up with Beatles theory of all exactly a month later Which country says multiple musical influences right now, you know kids that grew up in I think a lot of artists are in the same position As me or it's it's kind of what country is now It's kind of a perfect storm of what? Good song is a good song I always thought so I really care what John is right honest, right? But for my sound It's kind of a big song
18What's the difference in writing to the two genres? Is there a difference? The phone was pretty melodic stuff different in in definitely is more focused on storytelling country yes, absolutely and The default stuff it was a completely different time in life. So I was writing a lot about great really not great relationships, so I just the Songs type of songs that I'm singing are a lot different some of different places in the lives. Yeah, right So there's nothing there's no like we need anything we need to do more a minors No, no, there's no not really a formula. I mean, it's it's mainly a lyric content What you're talking what you're singing about and more of the production side what instruments you're using it
08You know because there's some we do waste in my time You know, just a big hit for us back We play it with man and a little man. You'll be stripped right now live and it's um, you know The country song really honestly good. So a lot of it was how you dress it up and What are those songs you cut your phone? Are there any other ones we've done? Yeah, we've done a few we've done count on me was another default song we've done we've played deny Which was our first record we didn't really We just kind of like that one but that one but uh, you know, we did some interesting stuff We've done royals of Lord song. Yeah, we did that one with with banjo and and stuff to come off for you Yeah, just an experiment
53Cool, and then the other side we were doing songs that we're doing that a couple Keith early look a Keith urban song We have here so we're kind of taking the country songs a little more I Know it's a difference going down a natural just like just a way every every word is pulled over so Bigger's yeah, yeah, they all cut their One thing I noticed about the songs it's that I don't know what it's gonna describe they all have a Every little thing that you do and every little word there is that just a specific job to do it It's not about just rhyming one like the end words that you're using in a sentence anymore anymore. It's there's a lot of different Timings of how you're singing stuff like that if you really look at some of the great written songs
41They all have little things in there that that's those those great songwriters will do and people don't even notice You wouldn't even notice you so man. I love that song. That's kind of why that everything has its place It's really great song The end works just this time to ride that was the only rule right You're rolling with the mat name on tour right now, I want to give you a little shout out Yeah, yeah, all the Vancouver guys and I've done a bunch of shows those guys now And Matt Good group of guys Yeah, I mean after after our shows
31In a lot of events It's great. Yeah, yeah, we do some call five questions five quick questions Rotor studio When you hear a song what usually hits you first the arts melody written melody There's someone's ever a Dallas mental what's up? I Mean so the words anything you're gonna say someone's if someone's never heard your music before what song you want Don't write in that's that's I think that's one word Yeah, I'm a great family Thanks man, yeah very much. It's easier
