Regina out going west going west you done the mountain drive yet before? Oh, yeah Never done it in November though. No, it's not treacherous yet. I think you got another month before before it's brutal Okay, but I hear the planes are even worse because there's nothing blocking the wind in the snow Yeah, I was really windy today really really windy today We were the steering wheels on quite an angle Yeah, I can go in the white knuckled for the prairies Tell us about this new record just came out in the stores Yeah, I don't know what to say about it all it's awesome. It's rockin. Yeah, it's country rockin Yeah, yeah, I like it. Yeah

0:48Very important that you're proud of your own record. Yeah always an always an important thing sidelines of the cities the new CD just came on stores about a week ago You had a show last night at the high fight was awesome tonight at the high fight as well What time you on stage tonight the Sunday nights and earlier night? Oh, yeah, you don't have to worry about being too hungover for work That's good to know or school depending or school or whatever. Yeah, do you know what time you're on tonight? Yeah, yeah, early early. Wow, so don't you can still get drunk and get up to work. Yeah, exactly cool Well, they can stand Peter's game You got people coming from the stampedeaters game the big oh no, they're in Saskatchewan never mind People watching on TV though, and it's true. What time's the game end about six? Yeah, so work out perfectly Come down and keep drinking with cup the Duke. Yeah, exactly. I can rock times. I haven't seen you guys in like five years

1:34I'm very excited to see the progression of the band. Yeah, I've watched I think you'll What's a different here? You were in the band and then like things right? Yeah, Corey Corey just joined I did indeed Yeah, what would you come what were you doing before? I was in Montreal playing with a band called the Demaxians. Oh cool That ended I got a call from these guys and you moved to Toronto for it indeed nice. Yeah, we're just based in Toronto Basically like little Italy. Oh, yeah, oh my both of Dale actually joined the band Two years ago. Yeah, you sleep Matt Mays. All right. I still do it. Oh really cool Yeah, you guys should do a US tour with me as I think it would work out well and Sam Roberts throw him in there for a little Well, it's been talked about I can tell you that Yeah, all three would be a heavy-duty tour, but I guess I can't get in wrong out there

2:21Yeah, I know I know it needs to get out there. Yeah, have you tried breaking the states? Have you played the states yet? Yeah, we've toured a little bit in the US. We're working on it It's tough for bands like That's that's not like we do, you know, it's kind of uh, it's just not I Don't know Okay, that's true that right? Does all right. I don't know. Yeah, welcome is pretty good, you know, but maybe you guys start acting on saying and going to rehab and do things Yeah, exactly. Yeah, we do a little there, but he's good. Don't give me no no a little a little out there You guys haven't done any of those crazy stories yet. Well, we just don't tell anybody about it No, I'm still trying to get over my fear of needles once I get past that Let's go through the songs of the new record. I love the first track I love how Jason Tate from the week of then's actually plays percussion. Yeah, yeah, yeah, which is pretty rad

3:08What is it like glasses or what's he just has a bunch of literally it's just junk like Pots and pans and pieces of scrap metal and weird stuff I think basically his bag of clinkety clankety stuff is represents his personality and that it's just a bunch of weird things that all come together and Create goodness that is Jason Tate. Yeah, that's cool. Yeah, I like how it starts the record to the violins And it really rocks out. It's a good way to encompasses your sound and shows people the direction you're going on the record. Yeah, yeah, well, I thought we thought it was A good first track as well for that reason. Yeah, let's play it for people. Tell people what it's about Well, it's kind of I've been listening to a lot of a lot of different stuff, but that song I'd realized I'd never written a song about

3:56anything God-based I was reading the lyrics like damn so yeah, it was kind of you know questioning that you know when you kind of want You feel like you need more faith in your life, but at the same time You know you you know you question it at the same time. It's all it's about it's not really anti God or or pro got just sort of Think you know just thinking about it. Just kind of talking about it, you know if I live a rified diet It's cuff the Duke fuel 90.3 cool 90.3. It's about the music. This is 16th

8:04My name is Matt and joined by cuff the Duke in the studio. Let's play another song guys What do you want to play off the record? I love them all I can't even pick one long roads a cool one long road to get one I like how you put the sketch on that's hard to throw in a song. It's not it's not the easiest Things are you write it down you like yeah? You're actually right. I wrote it down. It's like all right Next I gotta get like Mississippi or Massachusetts exactly exactly it's a good road song though. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well again I was life on the road. Yeah, and it kind of it's a bunch of different You know stories all amalgamated into one really mmm, but you're right on the road or kind of thinking back on the road Yeah, more thinking back retrospectively cool Yeah, but I don't I think

8:51By winter's end is a good one I was thinking that could be single is it gonna be a single do you have a single for this record? We're kind of really tossed around what we want to do you know some people at the You know management and label have their opinions of what what do they want well, you know cuz sometimes they think Wow like what should the single be we should have tried should you try and approach it from well I'll just pick like the cool song or should you try and pick the one that's most straight ahead and you can play in the radio? And it's like personally I'm all about whatever can get played on the radio at this point So we can get out of a van and move on up to the east side, you know Do you like the apartment in the sky yeah Let's yeah, no, but no no, but just picking we just want it just be nice to you know

9:36If you if you're gonna pick a single actually maybe you know pick something that people would want to play What do you want the single week? What do you guys want? Remember the good It's a pop gem that's my little note that I wrote down beside the song pop Play that for people you tell people that one's about That one was about a couple people Not directly in my family that but people that I knew who had passed away sort of before the time and and And just forgot me thinking about life in general, you know, so just talking about Just how quickly things can can go by and you know life can be over before you know it It also was sort of around the same time I was writing if I live or if I die sort of this massive like mid-20s crisis I was having

10:23John Mayer quarter-life crisis. Yeah, yeah, basically all right cuff the Duke remember the good times fuel 90.3 90.3 it's about the music. It's cuff the Duke remember the good times you can catch them at the high-five

13:15They're gonna be on stage in just a few minutes. We got the guys in the studio right now Don't want to say something. Oh, yeah, you keep talking about the lyrics and wondering is it just you Wayne that writes all lyrics Or is it like a band process kind of thing? This time around it was just me yeah previous No, yeah Well, yeah, well Paul wrote lyrics to a song that he wrote and stuff on the last record what tunes up there was a time Oh, yeah, yeah, that's good song cool. I'll call you Musically do you come with like an acoustic guitar ideas or is it all kind of just let's jam and see what happens? Yeah, well a couple times like just let me jam it out Often it's an idea that I have or like a rough song that I'll have and then Paul and Dale and with this particular record was Paul and Dale and I sort of really

14:07Structuring everything they would sort of Pick up where I you know I sort of present the song and then they would Kind of out layer. Yeah, bring it to where it needed to be whose idea was the song on surging revival Who's is that Paul's my name is Paul Oh coin I think of Because Jason Tate played the saw oh does he okay cool. Yeah, and we're then strummer for people. Yeah, yes and He I think it might have been Paul coins who who? Engineered and co-produced the record. I think it might have been his idea because he knew Jason played it How do you say yes? That's the one that needs the saw not the other ones do it on this one? I have no idea to be honest, but most people actually think it's like a like a theremin out of code That's the one there's no there's not really anything right you just kind of wave your hands and it makes you

14:55Yeah, exactly it's a radio frequency Mumbo. Yeah, I don't know how it works. Have you ever seen one? I've never seen one. I've just heard yeah Yeah, I knew a guy who played one really yeah, and actually Paul coin actually has a theremin It's and he used it. What's the high Los OS the high Los OS? Yeah On recordings right, but I don't think yeah, maybe we don't they don't use it live. They just did a few shows Are you guys doing them? I did? Yeah, you were just here then yeah I have to work. I want to go to the show so bad. It was good. I bet it was You just rubbing it in ask every band that comes in five questions just one word answers We can you can each take a turn answering or you can all answer do whatever you want all right? Let's try to do a message group. Okay, all right. See who disagrees with you. Yeah, exactly. I pot our CDs. I Letting her McCartney Lenin Lenin

15:44Alcohol or marijuana Split yeah Many times song you've written your most proud of or favorite song to play live Wow favorite song to play live Favorite song to play well, that's two. Let's do favorite song Favorite song I've ever written I'd have to go with Ross and Square just because it like it it's so sentimental to me Oh, and I like it for that I don't it's maybe not like the best musically perhaps I don't know but that's my favorite that I've ever written favorite to play live. Yeah stuff I got by winners and for me. Yeah by winners and that one's a lot of fun Yeah, I'm the record for sure my winners and yeah, we should play that for people but one more word one word cuffed the Duke It's

16:34Yes, yeah, we all have to go for my sister's wedding. Oh, okay. It was kind of sad to let it go Yeah, well, it's always my back. It's a little stubble. Yeah, yeah I have an apathetic attempt at a beard. I can't seem to go on going It's winter time, you know, you gotta stay warm. Yeah Yeah, cuffed the Duke one word Beards beards works I have yet to hear beards. Yeah, let's play people by winter's in cuz I think that one could be a single I like that tune. Yeah, cool. It's tough the Duke by winter's end fuel 90.3 90.3. It's about the music. This is 16th Ave

21:21I'm Matt joined by the guys and cuffed the Duke in the studio there on stage at the hi-fi in a few minutes I'll get them out of here in just a little bit so they can go perform for you But I want to talk to you about take my money and run. I love that tune. I don't know why it didn't Bring you to the masses. I'm still waiting for it to happen I don't know but I want to play it for people because I love it and it's it made me fall in love with your band and Tell people what it's about it's kind of a political economic statement. It is I think we were Went through a phase of working some really bad jobs while trying to be a musician. Are you guys still working or Really pretty much music full-time. It's good. You know we pick up the occasional job here and there for extra cash But for the most part it's all music But yet so it's just kind of about venting about minimum wage jobs that we all had to work and because you couldn't get a good job because we'd be going away too much, you know

22:12so I was just kind of with that and then kind of the The slightly kind of gets well you can hear it in the second verse it kind of gets political Barely there's some political things on this record too. Yeah, we try to get a little more political. Yeah. Yeah like the some some questioning war tunes and But in an ice way where the grandfather, you know, yeah circle. Yeah, it's kind of yeah It's based on a true story that I read about it. Oh really if you know in the New York Times actually online I read about it and I just kind of loosely based it around that made it sound Mexican With the horns and the drum beat. Yeah, well, it kind of made it sound Americana if I yeah, you know Sort of like that Callexa Coe kind of yeah, you know, yeah, nice. Let's play take my money and run it's cuff the Duke fuel 90.3

22:58You said behind your desk count every penny you own you and your stupid smile I hope you both die It can start get rich around the mortgage treated like shit

Yeah, you guys gonna strip it down or you're gonna go full-band for that Oh, no full-band full-band It seems like a bit like a koustics and strings Do some more some you know mellow it a little bit, but those still be some rockers. Yeah, you know cool

26:44That's uh any tune off any three records. What do you want to play people? Oh, wow? Well, we should definitely play something by our friends Bands otherwise they'll be pissed off as long as they're Canadian. We're good to go. Yeah. No, no, of course.
