00So where are you guys at now? I mean according to the Twitter you guys are working on a record Well, given that given that you've been touring so much the past few years
08Are you are you guys rehearsing this week? Do you need to rehearse or are you at a point where you just now? We'll be fine when we get out there Yeah, well, I'm just thinking of Coachella. I was just picturing the surfboard thing again and
27Was that come out again or was that a one-time thing because that was you know not many people have done that over the course of rock history Yeah, absolutely. So is this gonna be is this the last run for this record? I mean longer sale keeps taking off the longer you guys can just keep touring this record. It's crazy how long
14I never wanted to go
16They come to you on the board I've talked to a couple of songwriters lately that I've been talking about either going for a jog or going for a swim And that's when they their ideas because it's it's kind of like a it's not a mindless activity But it allows your your brain to go to different places. So does that happen to you on the ocean? Okay That's interesting
14I'm just trying to think of how to segue that into the band Are there are there songs that you guys have been working on for this record? Where it's more of the other guys coming to you or is it still very much your project? Oh, absolutely Well, if that's when you feel like you're in the zone, why not right?
20Where will ideas typically start will they start with a synth for you?
11They start with a guitar like where do you how do you I guess if you're on the back of the bus it'd probably be a guitar I would think Yeah, absolutely
01Well, even from what I've heard for you say even the successful ones the same way too, which which I find interesting that it's And then I find that talking to a lot of songwriters over here that seems to be the case It's always the ones that just come from from nowhere that I know being Everyone's favorites for some reason and I Yeah, that's what it seems like Does given the success of writing something so spontaneously like boost your confidence as a songwriter knowing that I can do this and people and a
05Lot of people dig it now. Like how has that changed your songwriting? Has it Yeah
30Well, there's something about it because it just keeps going and I did it Yeah, those like I did a thing with with some people for Vikings and interview with some of the cast members the other week And it was in the promo and I was like this song has a life like I haven't seen it. It's so long. It's great But yeah Yeah, there you are like that. That's good What kind of mainstream now? I mean the tour the tours keep going so I like it Pretty a belting I like it
22Well, I think it's mainly now that I've been doing this print thing for a few years I think it's mainly for that paragraph to explain it to people in the opening line who haven't heard it yet Interesting I'm gonna segue that horribly into poppy indie bands like mother mother and imagine dragons because you guys have picked
25I don't know if you picking or your booking agency or how that works, but You know, so Well talk about mother mother cuz I mean this is for Canada and they're a Canadian band and then we love them up here So how did you get acquainted with their music and how come they're on the road with you? That's great. I like that
50One thing I forgot to ask you before when we were talking with the live show is is why don't you play anything? I mean you play everything on the record essentially So how come you want to just be or how come you want it to just be a frontman? That's a good answer before I let you go here because I'm taking up a lot of your time five quick questions one word answers
57Road or studio Lemon or McCartney you can see the Beatles your parents. That's good. I like that When you hear a song what usually hits you first I've asked these five questions to every band I've ever interviewed so so don't worry. It's it's there's a mishmash of answers over the years
45When you hear a song what usually hits you first lyrics melody or rhythm. I like of it It's all good. It's I just love asking them because it's always interesting to see where people take them
38Well, this one will be interesting song you've written your most proud of yes, it is and it's epic Well, it's more than 12 minutes if you count that little bonus thing at the end Yeah, you got to have one of those In one word a wall nation. I like it. I want a wall nation. I like it
33Just to repeat the band and it's good That's true you did you did create a word. That's interesting Yeah, you should you should talk to some dictionary people about that. That's a sense of pride. I think In the lexicon yeah amazing Well, thanks so much for chatting I won't take up any more of your time and next time you're in Toronto We'll we'll do like a video interview kind of thing Thank you Aaron take it easy
