00Oh, hey, what's going on man? How you going? I'm great. How are you? Where are you guys? I am backstate Lauds arena where's a the Las Vegas and there you go What what hotel you stand up? You know we push out of like three tonight, so I'm just gonna Waste it until three o'clock and then get on the bus and roll out sandy egg over the last show of the tour Nice and then what and then what's what and then and then I'm gonna go home and I'm gonna get married Yeah, congratulations. Thank you very much often then we head out to Japan Japanese tour Cool the dates lined up for that you coming up the Calgary
50You know I don't know that we're gonna make it up to Cal I think the only I think the only Canada day Wasn't the new you know new thing after the mix on this reward but for like a year's like Jack stuff or something corporate stuff Probably Jack stuff, you know, yeah, you know, yeah here. You made me a little happier now with the whole marriage thing
54You never know. Yeah, I'm having a great time now. Yeah, exactly How'd you hook up with these guys? I mean I know a lot of artists put out solo record just because you know They feel maybe it won't fit with the band and stuff and I'm wondering right How'd you hook up with these guys like how come know something corporate guys decide? You know, maybe I'll just I'll drum on tour or something like that. Are they tired? No? I mean, you know, it was one of these I mean, you know not to say it
46I mean we I still see the guys, you know all the time we talk every you know, we talk to you We can work with them facts and you know at that point I've been working with Tommy Lee on a
53So I've heard anything got feeling now like, you know, it was definitely and it really sort of got me back on my feet
10I would say a lot quicker than I probably would have had enough Now you mentioned Josh and used to co-write with him and now you're doing the stuff by yourself Is it right is how's it different on each of the on each of the those records? But he wrote he but those on he sort of wrote individually now to the only to connect you like I would Here and there but first I've been writing music because I was the other my junior year
04I had tour here soon enough, you know, little kid. Yeah. Yeah, do you ever write on guitar? I mean mixtape sounds like it's a guitar it could be something corporate song at least that seems like the one on the record that Kind of fits in musically with the rest of that stuff. Yeah, I mean, no guitar I wrote the mixtape on piano and you know
54I definitely had every intention behind it being like more of a guitar song It felt like it felt much like much more of a rock producer really cool I really tried to kind of you know, really try to sink our teeth into it as a real kind of you know guitar rock track You know the album itself, you know, most of the clean kind of dirty raw the clean kind of Sandor and you know, I mean which I feel like it's sort of over done at this point, you know
40So we were like but yeah, we we were also I heard a dire streets on kind of inspired inspired it tape, you know And then try to give this tour that it's gonna make sense. So instead of actually making lemix tapers say I actually I just wrote a song about
55That's awesome. I got I mean same girl the whole records about pretty much rate you is you who you're marrying now Yeah, pretty harsh record at times. I mean there's some stuff there. What does she think would you hear that now? We have to ask her you know, you know, it's one of these things You know, we've dated from many many years and since the good chance you're gonna be a target or at least the subject matter
40You know and it's a good bet in the good the bad You know, it's the only way that I can be true to you know What's been true writing and and obviously like when she she might be in a and put it out there And I was like, you know, it was the baby, you know, and then and I you know, I think for the most part she gets it Yeah, anything. Yeah, so I think we're okay. That's good
28I want to go through a couple of tracks on the record, you know kind of track by track type thing sure first track holiday from real I mean it establishes a whole bunch of themes on the record stuff that well same kind of something corporate themes that you were writing About back then but now I mean California is a big huge influence on this one girls drinking weed Really the breakup all that kind of stuff. Yeah, yeah, I'm what then I know you're a big pot some Well, not a big pot pop round as you're in you right? Oh good. That's great So, you know I'm to be you know from from one one sense or the other, but yeah, I think I mean you get the idea from a record Yeah, yeah, there's a line in that song. I just love scoring eight from the lesbian and Venice. You actually yeah Yeah, you get your stuff. Yeah, according this record I mean I work out of a studio in Santa Monica and yes, there's a contingent of
19So it's a song you know the reason it's first really the song that's sort of like you said and that is come right song about it
10You know and part of it that you from and and kind of out yeah Was there a lot of thought process that went into the order the record was it written in that order? I mean, it's very chronological that was some of the songs were a little broader They speaking that song was really about coming full circle
09So I thought it would be interesting to put it in the middle, you know and kind of prove that it was just a big circle You know, yeah, well it's the only thing because it comes after Lella lie Which I mean talks about being done writing songs about that girl and everything like that, right? Yeah, and then there I come right back right some more, you know Really the thing I mean that was kind of the story of that year It was like, you know the push and pull of what a what a breakup is, you know It's like you sure you think you moved on or you think at least it's left just comes right back at you I mean special new you fretting the same ground your vocal melodies are just unreal reminds me very much of Brian Wilson the Beach Boys
10Especially Lella lie. I mean made for each other sounds like a Beach Boys song or it could have been that would be idea Yeah, but they yeah, it was a huge it was a huge motivator and it's sort of sort of like, you know There's something corporate so we had really you know as a result of that I opinion, you know I'm like an extremely good to us, but it's still kind of like punk, you know
04I was like for instance and I punk music at that point, you know I mean I didn't know anything about punk so like how could I be punk? I don't even know what they're talking about you know the hope was you know
03Well song it's kind of punk rock at least in the idea last straw I know it's not on the record, but I just down to the other day I mean I know you said go up and download it whatever you know Yeah, yeah, yeah, I love that song, yeah, but Rainbow politics now that's different we did I mean I don't know if it's gonna be a leader of what on the next one Just with the way that the I don't think you know and it was so heated everywhere in America and everywhere you went
56Election was just another one of these like kind of dark periods definitely that word right steel You just throw it up on the website or something yeah, yeah, yeah, I guess it hasn't probably popped in
21Yeah, we're talking about that song. It's not on the record, but you said go It's not a matter how you feel about the downloading of music and you think it's helping you or Herman anymore You know I gotta be honest my opinion of it is is really you got into a very simple place Which is it's not gonna stop don't fight it. You know I mean I do what you do It's like when you you think I think that a music industry has stopped
34You know and it's like you know the way that artists go from Unknown the more people to find out about you and they'll eventually buy your next record If they played it as a tree to your art Yeah, you know and you know and I mean, but it's like yeah, it's not a day and age where like now They'll be you know there are some stations that are really
34United by pellet good musician. They're good music Our stations different that's our goal The thing it's like and you know we appreciate it. It's like into any station that's gonna play my band It's like I'm extremely grateful and I'm always willing to do do the kid gonna Decide whether or not you want to hear your band or buy your record if he can't if he doesn't have access to your music You know and and downloading gives that acts they buy t-shirts and like on your next record. They won't steal it
31Now I wonder how song like the mixtape. I mean it went to what was it number one on VH one or MTV or something? Yeah, yeah, I got number one on VH one. Yeah, no, I'm the radio like it doesn't make sense to me if a song is doing that well in the video why Like Understood I could understand any of it if I could have any of it made any sense to me and it's like I a gazillion rec working musician
37I'll help you as much as I can though. Yeah, that's for sure. You know, I'm not one of the you know This stuff that get you're one of these days I click and these stations. I've taken up a lot of your time
25I got five quick questions one more dancers. Okay, cool. Alcohol and marijuana I'm going pot on that one And you've got me in a that's like a very that's a tough question to answer right? I just saw the image Fair enough I potter CDs. I'm using my eye pop vinyl favorite song for life cover the Everly Brothers dream
28Which I really enjoyed it. Why? Yeah And one word Jack's mannequin I'll give you one now, you know, you know, so what they beach. I'm going be seems up the record kind of yeah
