0:07Where's the boy? He went out riding by his Michael. But I told him he better be hung by 430. I don't seem a boy, no. We are doing everything we can. My yourselves! We have three boys missing from Holiday Garden. It's a very delicate situation. I'm in the woods by that little creek they call Devil's Den. I found something. I wanted to tell this story Devil's Knaw because I think it's like one of the most amazing crime stories in contemporary history. It's inexplicable at some level how this horrifying event could have occurred with no hard evidence around the crime scene.
1:00You couldn't have made that up. The fact that these three young boys were murdered so viciously in this forest and that their bodies were found with absolutely no evidence of any human presence at the scene of the crime was supernatural. It's a combination of that supernatural sort of event with the all-too human natural response to it which is that we need to find an answer. I love that this was a take where we saw of course what happened with the West Memphis III, but the film also kind of explores all the possible paths that weren't followed
1:46and all the threads that were into examined. It also creates these two characters that stand aside and begin to see that something is wrong. The character of the witherspoon is playing and the first are playing that they're beginning to over the course of this understand that justice won't be served. And then what? How do you live with doubt? How do you live with this idea that you may not have an answer? All of that was just so compelling. Well I guess you have to leave without an answer. It's what you're feeling leaving the theater. You have to this movie and it's nice because you don't get that from one movie. Well you can't because you can't get that from a lot of movies because any dramatically constructed story would need it a third act. I mean it'd be crazy. That's why I'm saying if you were to make this up anyone would say okay so then you've given us this crime.
2:36And you're given us a courtroom. You better have an answer and so it's interesting that in this case you have all of these signifiers for a resolution but there is no resolution. And it doesn't even have the comfort of some of the documentaries which say okay well now look at this because that is the answer to this person. We're not saying that either. We're saying like these are all possible and some of the maybe the real answers are going to be lost to us. We can't actually follow them anymore because the blood evidence was lost or you know like that witness was let go and time has passed. And so it's troubling and unresolved in a way that can only happen in a case based on actual circumstance. And I think it's kind of a unique sort of feeling that you're left with at the end where you have every reason to believe that there's going to be a resolution and the reason.
3:26I think it's even more powerful for people who know nothing about the story who are going to this and see all this unfold and have every reason to believe it's going to go somewhere. So it's a challenge and it's actually unique. I think as a filmmaker I just thought it was a unique opportunity and I got really excited about being able to tell it. I got to ask you guys some questions. I'll let you go but we do some call five questions five quick questions. Sure. One more answers. Okay. All right. Film or digital. Now digital sadly three words. It's a bad idea like that. Writing or directing? Both. Okay. You guys have been all that to do it. Lennon or McCartney? Oh Lennon yeah. Hitchcock or Kubrick? Hitchcock. In one word.
4:11Devil's not. Supernatural. Damien Eckles, Jason Baldwin, Jesse Miss Kelly will be charged in the murders for the three boys we found last month in the Rob of those woods. Apparently some residents suspect a satanic cult is responsible. That looks like furries. You don't look like that when you're like a normal person. My name's Ron Lax, I'm an investigator. This crime is unthinkable. Where's they did it? What if they didn't? Did you kill any of those three boys? No. Anytime anything weird happens around here people blame it on devil worshipers. Did you ever find any evidence or anything like these murders to Damien? Why I think it should not be imposed. Because I'm innocent. There was blood on the knife. They wouldn't do anything. Video people say what they want to hear.
4:57Killing three eight year old would make you feel good. Whoever did it must have. Satanism is out there. The police, the judge, everybody. This is all just some sort of game to them. Whatever it takes. I'll be able to prove the cops never really tried to find out who did. Would you want three more families to lose their children to? I don't know what you mean.
